The Life of Harriet Tubman

      Before the Civil war, the government stopped slaves from being shipped from different countries to America. After that, the plantation owners who had slaves sold some of their slaves to other white men. Because of this families were separated. Free people and former slaves formed the Underground Railroad to help those slaves escape thier owners. One of the Undergound Railroad's most famous Conductors was Harriet Tubman. 

       Harriet Tubman was born in Dorchester County, Maryland in March of 1822. Her birth name was Araminta "Minty" Harriet Ross Green. She was born into slavery to her parents Harriet and Ben Green. At the age of seven or eight she was hired by the Cook family. At the Cooks she took care of sheep and weaved wool. One day Mrs. Cook got angry at her for making a mistake in her weaving process. Mrs. Cook whipped her so hard that Harriet became very sick and had to go back home. When Harriet recoved, she was hired by Mrs. Susan, where her work was housekeeping and taking care of the baby. At Mrs.Susan's she ran away but came back cold and hungry. Then she left Mrs. Susan's and returned to her family. When she was thirteen, she was hit in the head with a two pound wieght because a slave tried to run away and his owner tried to hit the slave with the weight but hit Harriet instead.

       In 1844 Harriet married John Tubman at age 25. In 1851, she left John and went to the north with two of her brothers. That year her brothers returned to their home but she kept going. At age fifty, Harriet married Nelson Davis in 1869 and they adopted one child, Gertie Davis.

      During her time in the North, Harriet became involved with the Underground Railroad. She heard that her niece was about to be sold deeper in the south; Harriet came and took her niece and more family members to the North. After that, she made at least nineteen trips to free slaves. She freed 300-400 slaves during those trips.

      During the Civil war in April 12, 1861; Harriet was a cook, a nurse, and a spy for the Union army. Sadly, she died on March 10, 1913; when she was ninety-three. Harriet Tubman helped slaves get their freedom and became a famous person in American history because of rescuing slaves.

Ingendents

2 marshmallows (I chose pumpkin spice but you can chose anything that you want!) 

2 graham crackers squares

a Reese cup 

1.Put one graham cracker on a paper towel.

2.Put the Reese cup on the graham cracker.

3.Warm it up for 10 sec.

4. Put on the two marshmallows.

5.Warm up it for 10-15 seconds or until marshmallows are puffing up

6. Top with the other graham cracker 

This recipe is so easy but delicious. Your in the comfort of your own house and also enjoying a s'more like camping. Here is a tip: always have a glass of milk and a napkin beside the s'more. :)

                                                               Book Report

     Little Women is written by Louisa May Alcott. This is a three houndred thirty page fiction and takes place in the small city.

     Little Women is about the March family. They have four girls, Margaret [Meg], Josephine [Jo], Elizabeth [Beth], and Amy. In the beginning of the book, Mr. March goes into war, while the rest of the family stays home. It is Christmas and each of the girls have a dollar to  spend. They want to spend it on their selves, but they get Mrs. March [Marmee] something. Then they meet ' the Lawerence boy' Laurie. Meg goes to a friends house and learns that money is not everything. Thier father is sick in Washington and Marmee goes to help him feel better. Then when Marmee is away, Beth gets the scarlet fever. Their life lessons are often our life lessons too. Marmee teaches the girls to be kind, loving, giving, and patient.

     I highly recommend the book Little Women. This book teaches me about a lot of things. This is one of my favorite books. I have read this entire book.

Dog Outfits!!!

 Little Ann loves her outfit because it makes her have more "fashion".

We as a family decided that we needed to get the dogs some outfits so they don't freeze to death. We went to Walmart and looked at the dog outfits and they were $5. So we looked and found some old green sweat pants that were my dad's. We took some scissors and cut the legs out of them and cut them two leg holes and a tail hole. We decided that could be their "undershirt" or if it was just a little cold we would only put that on them. Then Dad went to the Goodwill and got a black with light blue striped sweater for $6 and cut the sleeves out of it and cut two leg holes. We only put the sweater on them if it is going to be pretty cold. We have sometimes have trouble getting the outfits on them, but when they realize what we are doing they will sit there and let you put 50 different outfits on them!! They are so cute with their outfits. So if you want to save some money on outfits go to the Goodwill or just look in your closet for a sweater or sweat pants and then you will have two outfits for your pups.

The Delicious "Crumbling Wall Coffee Cake"

I love to read Nancy Drew books and I love to cook. For Christmas last year I got a Nancy Drew Cook Book from my parents. I would like to share a recipe with you.
                                         Crumbling Wall Coffee Cake
1 1/2 sticks of butter, melted
1/2 cup of maple sugar (I just used brown sugar)
1/2 cup of fine dry bread crumbs (just lightly toast two or one pieces of bread and crumble it up)
1 egg
1/3 cup of granulated sugar
1/3 cup of milk
1 cup of self-rising pancake mix

Heat the oven to 375.
In a medium-sized bowl mix together a 1/2 cup of butter, maple sugar, and bread crumbs. Press the mixture against the bottom and sides of a loaf pan.
In another bowl break the egg and add the white sugar. Add the milk and pancake mix to the egg-and-sugar. Stir lightly until all ingredients are combined. Stir in 3 tablespoons of melted butter. Pour the entire mixture on top of the maple sugar mixture already in the loaf pan.
Bake for 25 minutes. Let the cake cool 5 minutes before you turn it upside down on a warm platter and let it fall away from the mold. It tastes best when served warm. (Add more protein to your cake by mixing 1/2 cup of finely chopped pecans to the maple sugar mixture.)

Puppies!!!

 This is me with my puppy.

 Sarah loves her puppy almost as much as I love mine.

In August we had a race on the first Saturday of the month. When we came home we had to get ready to get these puppies. Then on that next Monday we got our puppies. I got a boy and named him Old Dan. Sarah got a girl and named her Little Ann. We got the names off of the movie Where the Red Fern Grows. We love our puppies!! They are 1/3 mountain curr, 1/3 fiest, and 1/3 jack Russell. They are suppose to be good squirrel dogs and that is good because we have lots of woods around our house and have several squirrels. I have been teaching them to tree squirrels and so far they have treed three squirrels. They love us and love being around us. They now weigh 13-14 pounds. We are looking forward to many years with them.

My birthday was so fun, but I did not want my friends to leave. We swam, put together my legos and did some other things. I still remember those happy moments, that we spent to together. I will see them soon, though.

Big Daddy Redtail!!!

Big Daddy Redtail is a Fox Squirrel and is the biggest squirrel we have ever seen!! He looks like a beaver climbing in the trees he is so big.  We found his nest and love to watch him climb through the trees. We will not kill him because he is the only squirrel that lives around here and we are hoping he finds a mate and has kids so there can be more squirrels. I took these pictures when one day I was watching him get all these hickories that Elijah and I put behind a rock. I wanted to take more pictures so that I might get a better picture but I had school to do. I hope ya'll love the pictures and that ya'll can come back to read some more post.

These are hawks that I took pictures of. Aren't they pretty? One day Elijah started telling me that there was some white things on the limb. I was like there is no white things on the limb. Until I saw them with my own eyes. They were redtailed hawks. I took these pictures while they were still on the limb and mamma made it closer where you could see their red tails.

Christmas!!

My new book and the best hat (it isn't crimson and white)!!

This Christmas my family went to my Uncle's house for Christmas. Despite the long trip we had lots of fun!! I             got a book, a Texas A&M hat, a glow in the dark gel ant farm, a Lego City set, a big road atlas, and a stunt car.

Then we went to my mom's parent's (Paw & Maw) house to see them. After a while my dad and I went to my other grandparent's (Pop & Gigi) house to spend the night, while the others stayed behind to spend the night. My dad and I went to Pop and Gigi's house to go hunting on their property and they live a good 45 min. drive from Paw & Maw's.

I took my stunt car to their house and it was as big as their chihuahua so I tried to play the chihuahua. The next morning my dad and I went hunting and jumped about 5 deer right before we got to our tree stand. Then we saw 4 good size ones in between us and our tree stand. Unfortunately it was dark and we could not get a good shot at them. But it was a good hunt because we saw something.

When my daddy was running he spotted this snake. So my dad called Isaac, Sarah(me), Rilley( my friend), and Elijah.we captured the snake with a bucket and a shovel. Then we were wandering how are we were going to get to the house. So we put the shovel under the handle of the bucket and Rilley and I carried the bucket to the house. It was fun catching the snake but it jumped out at us and didn't bite us. Then we let it go in the tall grass where it belonged.

This is the bigger one.

One day me and Elijah was playing catch and was having a great time together. Then Elijah threw the ball to my right a little too far. I was going to get it when I saw a black thing about two inches off the ground. I looked closer and saw that it was a baby snake. So Elijah and I caught the snake in a bucket and brought it to the house. My dad was out running so we had to wait for him so he can say if it was poisonous. We took some pictures of it while we were waiting for him. When he came back he did not know what kind of snake it was. We let it go in the field by our house. Two days later my dad was running and saw another snake on the road, but it was bigger than the first one. I brought a bigger bucket and a shovel. We scared it into the bucket and took it to the house. We took some pictures and let it go in the tall grass right beside the place where we let the first one go. I love catching snakes!!

On the night of August the 7th before we went to bed my mom thought she smelled a skunk. Then in the middle of the night my dad heard some noise in our garage. He went to see what it was and he noticed that the small garage door was opened. Then he saw a yellow blurr run out of the garage. He started to look for Meowy and found her behind the wheelbarrow and she would not come out. The yellow blurr was another cat and was fighting Meowy in the garage. The next morning she was not bleeding but one of her eyes were swollen and we put some medicine on it. Now her eye is better thanks to God that He protected her.

FUN!!

On Friday, August the 17th, we went to my grandparent's house. Then on Saturday, August the 18th, my parents took my sister and I to Six Flags. We left the little ones with my grandparents.

The Georgia Cyclone

We arrived at the park around nine o'clock that morning and left around six o'clock that evening. I had lots of fun!! I rode 19 rides in one day!! My favorite rides were the The Great American Scream Machine and The Georgia Cyclone. It is funny that I like the oldest rides in the whole park.The bumper cars are very fun too. I was riding with my dad on the bumper cars and we went three and a half times around the track!! I won a basketball playing a basketball game and Sarah won a cape playing a game. My dad won a furry snake trying to hit the bell with a sledgehammer.  By the time we got home all of my siblings were asking where we had gone. I am looking forward to going back again one day.

The Bunny Story

This is a bunny that I caught on 3/19/12.
The bunny's name is Hippity Hop. That is a piece of fur in the left corner that I will tell you about in the post.

This is a small wild rabbit that I caught on 3/19/12. We found it after supper while daddy was cutting the grass (he almost ran over it). It was a cute bunny so we decided to try to keep it. We named it Hippity Hop. Then the day after we caught it (3/20/12) Elijah decides to take the bunny out side and show Sarah's friends. I see him and I go out there and try to stop him. Well I did stop him but Sarah's friends thought it was adorable and wanted to hold it. Instead of letting me have it the friend gives it to the other friend. I told Sarah's friend to put it down that it would not jump away and when she did it hopped away. I felt very sad. The next day I found a dog chasing the rabbit. The dog had it in its mouth and somehow I got the dog to let it go and I got it. When I got it I noticed something werid about its right side. Come to find out it was a piece of fur that the dog bit off. We decided to keep the rabbit until it got well. Well my grandparents were coming that weekend. So we decided to keep it and let them see it. The same night my grandparents came the rabbit got loose in the garage. We found him but we could not get to him. The grandparents got here and they helped us get the rabbit. We let it go the next night so it could go find its mom. So my mom said that if we see it we can catch it we can keep it until that night.
